Backdrop isn’t exactly a story video – its loosely-linked vignettes don’t add up to a plot – but I does manage to establish some vivid characters and to end on a surprisingly moving note. The entire cast is notable for natural and convincing performances, with stand-out work from Craig Hoffman as a nude photographer and self-confident cocksman, and from Devin Davenport as a virginal newcomer to gay life. Davenport’s seduction by Tony Angelo, his confused flight from a too intense encounter with Hoffman, and his eventual return to cruise the woods are psychologically real on a level seldom encountered in porn videos The rest of the product – solid sex from a solid cast, good production, and a fine music score – make this a very satisfying video.
