The idea of a documentary on the shooting of a gay sexvid – Knight Out with the Boys (reviewed in the April, 1992 AVN) – sounds like a good idea – and indeed, it would be quite interesting if the video it documented were a memorable one. Unfortunately, such is not the case here, and the interviews with director John Travis and prominent members of the cast seem pretentious and overblown in view of the results of their work. Scattered among the interviews is sexual footage from the video, including outtakes that did not make the final cut – for good reason. What could have been a major document about the gay adult industry descends into bland mediocrity and will probably neither entertain nor enlighten anyone.
