You know when a director thinks he's gotten a hold of his some of his best and most important work when he cuts it to run about 20% too long. That's the only real problem with Jumper. It's a total tour-de-force otherwise for director LaRue and star Ryan Yeager. Most particularly Ryan. Hands down. Dicks up. It's Yeager's finest moment among many good ones to date.
Ryan plays a sort of humpy heavenly angel — a foot soldier who died in 1783 at the battle of Yorktown. Now he's got wings and hopes to keep them by "jumping" down to present day Earth and helping some of his gay brothers in these troubled times. This sounds like a good plan to God, whom Ryan calls "Dad", and is played by the voice of popular performance drag artist Gender, who is a tad upset that the plan for humans to love and look after each other has taken longer than expected. He packs Ryan off to West Hollywood in the clothes of a bum with about a hundred condoms in his pockets, it being the early 90's and all.
After a great set-up like this, we want to see Ryan get right to work and naked as soon as possible. Unfortunately, Chi Chi chooses this critical early point in the video to devote five minutes to Gizell Climax dressed up in a french maid outfit, cleaning Adam Archer's apartment. Gizell is wasted and we're bucking and straining in the gate to get on with the sex.
Ryan eventually enters Archer's life and quite soon is shooting the first of his practically patented two cum shots per scene. Archer looks kind of goofy on the receiving end, with a big grin on his face that seems to be saying "Wow! I'm working with Ryan Yeager!" Archer is sweet, but lacks presence.
Leaving him a condom and his odd set of clothes. Ryan moves on to enhance the lives of lonely "straight" dude Sommers, bickering couple Thomas and Farrell, beguiling nerd Rockmore, and closeted Hollywood producer Daniels. Ryan is sexually involved in every scene except Thomas/Farrell, which he sort of magically facilitates. The sex throughout is riveting — particularly the Rockmore and Sommers sequences. Ryan is without a doubt the best actor and most flexible performer working in gay video today. The only problems here are technical. A short scene in a straight porno theater is so dark that it looks like it was filmed in a coal mine. The electronic reverb in God's voice kicks in and out like that of the great and powerful Wizard of Oz. Needless to say, we overlook most of these. This is VGA's strongest gay title in years.
