The appeal of amateur video lies mainly in its ability to persuade the viewer he is watching the guys next door in spontaneous, unrehearsed action. When these goals are not met, the results can be dull. Slow editing, repetitious camera angles, reappearance of the same “actors,” uninspired sex, guys staring at the camera for instructions about what to do next—that summarizes these tapes, amateur video not at its best.
