Originally issued in 1972, Falconhead has been absent from distribution for the last several years —and its return is a major event for older viewers who remember its initial impact as well as younger viewers who will see it for the first time. The symbolism of the story is so complex that I would need at least 20 pages to offer even a tentative explanation, but suffice it to say that narcissism, domination, and the flux between positive and negative attitudes toward sexuality are the underlying themes. The sequel, Falconhead II: the Maneaters, is currently available from HIS Video, and together the two titles constitute a major contribution to the history of gay video.
The video transfer in both cases is of high quality, and my advice to any store owner is simple: but both videos and display them prominently in your collection. Their mythic dimension remains undimmed by time, and if any X-rated gay titles achieve lasting classic status, these two offerings by Michael Zen will certainly be among them.
The photography is simply brilliant, and the action, which runs the spectrum from traditional oral and anal to mild S&M, is guaranteed to please. Thanks to Vidco for restoring this doldmine to their catalogue.
