After an uncertain start with Paradise Found, Jim West's Paradise series for Vivid strikes its stride in this second entry, a classic comedy of manners in the tradition of Jack Deveau with and Steve Scott. The title is a tease, since the action takes place in Los Angeles but revolves around a postcard from Maui wiht a picture of Nick Harmon in native garb.

The sexvid owes its superb status to West's sophisticated sense of irony and structure, his seamless direction, and his choice of a star (Beau Beaumont) with comic flair. Beau, the recipient of the postcared, becomes infatuated with the photo of Harmon and begins to see him in other men: a massage customer, a bar patron, a hitchhiker. This exploration of fantasy and obsession is consistently well-done, both by star and director. And congratulations to West for finding the appropriate niche for Harmon: as a postcard fantasy who comes to life only at the magic touch of a talented, exciting partner. Two final kudos: Doug Niles and Les Stine are in peak form. They hold their own admirably, even though Beaumont steals the overall show. Nice box cover.
