Badboy is a comedy with a laugh-provoking payoff. It's also one of the most successful uses yet of widescreen for sex scenes. First the comedy: Crown Prince Richard (Miller), can't get laid because the only nubile men around him are servants (about whom he fantasizes fulsomely), and that wouldn't be proper. But his madcap younger brother James (feisty Ryan) has no such compunctions. The suspicious king orders Richard to keep an eye on James. What Richard eyes is James gettin' what Richard can't get. Of course there's a happy ending, you think, with the sleeping prince finding someone real? Well, yes, but? Not to spoil the surprise, you really should have known. Now for the widescreen sex: Richard fantasizes a wake-up threesome with two lower-class fauns, and the wide screen both allows for all three bodies to be seen at once, and for huge horizontal close-ups of thrusting cocks (long enough to fill the screen, by the way). There's no need to tilt the camera when you want to show full reclining figures either. James' shameful assignation with a bodyguard over a urinal is centered on the screen with the sordid surroundings flanking it. Fencing-class friends using both ends of James can be watched simultaneously. A foursome in the woods takes full advantage of the scope of vision. The 12 men assisting Miller and Ryan in filling the screen this way are delightful to look at and delightful to watch fucking the princes (which most of them do-those are two hot holes vying for the throne). It's hard to single the orgiasts out-not only because they share only two hairstyles among them, but because so much of the sex is in claustrophobic, even confusing, crotch close-ups.
